How do I configure Microsoft Outlook with my Hosted Exchange account?

To use your Hosted Exchange account with Outlook 2003, follow the instructions below:

Open Outlook.
Click Tools
Select Email Accounts
Select Add New Email Account
Select Microsoft Exchange Server
Enter the IP address of 216.117.129.21 or the name of the server (HsbeExch1.hostexch.aitcom.net). If you are using Exchange 2007 use 216.117.187.20 or exch1.hosted07.aitcom.net.
Click the ‘Connection’ tab.
Under the ‘Exchange over the Internet’ area, click the box to select the option of ‘Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP.
After this is checked, click the button for ‘Exchange Proxy Settings’.
In this screen, enter the server name or IP (name = HsbeExch1.hostexch.aitcom.net or IP = 216.117.129.21) in this field under the option ‘Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange’. For Exchange 2007 use 216.117.187.20 or exch1.hosted07.aitcom.net.
Uncheck the box for “Connect using SSL Only.”
Check “On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP”
Check “On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP”
Click “OK” on all remaining dialog boxes, and click send and receive. This will connect with the exchange account and load your email, task lists, and other exchange tools into Outlook.

From the folder list on the left, ensure you are on the shortcut view. Click the “Options” button. Under the section labeled contact options, ensure you select Contacts as where to verify names against first. Click Save and Close at the top of the page.

For Outlook Web Access, use the steps below to ensure you receive notification of new mail messages.

Access Outlook Web Access by going to https://exchange.yourdomain.com
** Disregard any SSL warnings.
Login to your email account.
Access the folder list on the left.
Ensure you are on the shortcut view.
Click the options button.
Ensure that a check mark is in the box labeled “Display A Notification Message When New Mail Arrives”.
Click Save and Close at the top of the page.

You can either drag the item to the desired folder, click the move mail icon from within the message (the 4th icon from the right on the top of a message) or, from in the original folder, click the move mail icon while the message you wish to move is highlighted.

Click on the shortcut button on the left side of the screen.
Then click the Options shortcut. At the bottom of the options page, you have an option to view deleted items.
Click the button labeled View Items.
Locate the item you wish to restore and then click the Recover button.
The item will be placed back into the deleted items folder.
You can recover items that have been deleted up to 14 days prior.

Why can’t I see my Global Address List when I click the “To” button on a new mail message in OWA?

The Outlook Web Access addressing doesn’t provide for a Global Address Listing such as Outlook does. You will need to provide one of the pieces of information in the fields on the “Find Names” box and click “Find” to locate the name. The same functionality is true when you click the Address Book icon from the inbox view in OWA.

You can only view folders that reside on the server. Anything that is in a “PST” file is only viewable from the machine where the .pst is located. To view the server side folders, click the button labeled Folders located on the left side of the screen.

With every Hosted Exchange account AIT offers, there is also the ability to access email through Outlook Web Access or OWA. This option is a web based interface that resembles the desktop version of Microsoft Outlook.

To use OWA, do the following:

Open a web browser, preferably Internet Explorer.
Go to https://exchange.yourdomain.com/ where yourdomain.com is your domain name with AIT.
You will be prompted for a username and password. Enter the username of your account as username@yourdomain.com and your password. BE SURE NOT TO INCLUDE ANY SPACES BEFORE OR AFTER YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS!
Once you login, you will receive a brief SSL warning. We recommend you accept the certificate to ensure that your session is encrypted.
