Why does my FrontPage form give me an error when I submit it? https://website-dev.ait.tools/blog/why-does-my-frontpage-form-give-me-an-error-when-i-submit-it-2/ https://website-dev.ait.tools/blog/why-does-my-frontpage-form-give-me-an-error-when-i-submit-it-2/#respond Thu, 27 Jul 2023 16:28:17 +0000 https://website-dev.ait.tools/?p=214458 Typically, the FrontPage component that is used with forms is not synchronized with the FrontPage extensions and needs to be reset.  AIT support normally follows the procedures below to address simple FrontPage form issues. Try these steps yourself to attempt to resolve the problem.

  1. Open the site in FrontPage live on the server.
  2. Open the file in question using the FrontPage editor.
  3. Right clicked inside of the form
  4. Go to Form Properties.
  5. Reviewed the configurations, do not make any changes, and clicked ‘OK’.
  6. This resets the FrontPage configurations for that form and ‘syncs’ them with the server.

Test the form to see if it worked. In most cases, it will resolve the FrontPage form problem.

I added a FrontPage theme to my Top Level Domain. Now all of my virtual host(s) have the same theme. How can I prevent this? https://website-dev.ait.tools/blog/i-added-a-frontpage-theme-to-my-top-level-domain-now-all-of-my-virtual-hosts-have-the-same-theme-how-can-i-prevent-this-2/ https://website-dev.ait.tools/blog/i-added-a-frontpage-theme-to-my-top-level-domain-now-all-of-my-virtual-hosts-have-the-same-theme-how-can-i-prevent-this-2/#respond Thu, 27 Jul 2023 16:27:43 +0000 https://website-dev.ait.tools/?p=214457 Since subwebs are not allowed on linux servers FrontPage treats virtual hosts directories as part of the Top Level Domain. Hence any changes are trickled down to the virtual host(s).

To prevent this you must setup your Top Level Domain as a virtual host and install the extensions within this directory as well as your website. This will prevent FP from modifying any additional files/directories.

This allows the workstation to send the user/password authentication using PAP (Password Authentication Protocol). If this is not installed, the user will constantly receive the password prompt, but never granted access.

How can I modify my hosts file on Windows Vista or Windows 7? https://website-dev.ait.tools/blog/how-can-i-modify-my-hosts-file-on-windows-vista-or-windows-7-3/ https://website-dev.ait.tools/blog/how-can-i-modify-my-hosts-file-on-windows-vista-or-windows-7-3/#respond Thu, 27 Jul 2023 16:23:48 +0000 https://website-dev.ait.tools/?p=214447 How can modifying your Windows hosts file help you?

Modifying your hosts file will allow you to override the DNS for a domain on that particular machine. To give you an example, if you are moving your hosting from another provider to AIT, and have uploaded your data and you want to test the site before making the name server changes, you can modify your Windows hosts file to point the site to your new IP at AIT. This type of modification can be used to test your sites prior to going live, verify SSL installations, verify a site works prior to DNS changes, or for other DNS related reasons. This causes your local machine only to look directly at the IP specified.

What does the hosts file look like?

Your hosts file will need to have two entries added that will contain the IP address you want the site to resolve to and the domain name itself. Adding the below two lines for example will point www.domain.com and domain.com to the website-dev.ait.tools website:

    216.117.100.100 www.domain.com
    216.117.100.100 domain.com

Below is how to locate and edit the hosts file on Windows Vista and Windows 7. Once the proper domain information is added you will save the file and your system will begin resolving to the specified IP. Once testing is finished these entries should be removed.

How do I edit the hosts file?

Editing the hosts file is easy. Follow the steps below. NOTE: In Windows Vista and Windows 7, Notepad must be run as an Administrator. If you attempt to open the file without being an administrator, the file can not be updated.

    1. Click Start then All Programs then Accessories.
    2. Right click Notepad and select Run as administrator.
    3. Click Continue on the “Windows needs your permission” UAC window.
    4. When Notepad opens Click File -> Open.
    5. In the filename field type:
      • C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts
    6. Click Open.
    7. Make the necessary changes to the hosts file.
    8. Click File then click save to save your changes.
    9. When you are done testing the sites, remember to undo your manual entry to your hosts file.
