Introduction

With today’s wide variety of storage devices and types of hard drives, many businesses are challenged with the multitudes of drive technologies. 10K or 15K? SAS or SATA? SSD or SAS? There are a number of factors to be considered when selecting a storage type for a dedicated server. These include the level of sequential or random access performance needed, storage density, reliability and cost. There is a wide variety of types of storage that can be used, but we’ve seen a tremendous amount of use of SSD with our dedicated server environment and we’d like to share why we believe it is critical to consider SSD in your own production environment.

Conclusion

With any type of technology investment, a robust environment should not take a back seat to budget. Look at the total ROI of the investment including replacement costs and costs for downtime. Correct drive choice plays a major role in the overall reliability and performance of a dedicated server, and we believe SSD has shown true value and ROI.
